Canadian Solar Inc. is considering the construction of a lithium-ion battery manufacturing and assembly plant, Shelbyville Battery Manufacturing LLC, to be located in Shelbyville. The project’s scope includes the design and construction of building space as well as the purchase and installation of modular battery pack production lines with automated conveyors, robotic cell loading, assembly, welding and cell inversion equipment. Raw material storage, testing and packaging equipment and systems are also included. A construction schedule has not yet been developed. Canadian Solar would use the plant to produce lithium-ion battery cells, battery packs and modules to create utility-scale self-contained energy equipment storage systems.
