On Dec.16, Moss & Associates commemorated the topping out of the Simulation Hospital at the University of Miami School of Nursing and Health Studies with a celebration for nearly 150 employees and guests.
The 41,000 square-foot, five-story building will include an outpatient clinic, operating room suite, intensive care unit, skills resource centers, an auditorium with approximately 300 seats and a medical surgical unit.

Moss & Associates celebrated the topping out of SLS Lux Brickell, a $180 million luxury condo-hotel project, with a luncheon for nearly 700 employees and guests.
The property, located at 801 South Miami Ave, consists of 450 residences and 84 hotel rooms with interiors designed by Yabu Pushelberg. The 1,273,062 square-foot, 60-story building was designed by Arquitectonica and will feature private elevators, a pool deck with cabanas, sporting and recreation amenities, among other amenities.

On Dec.2, Moss & Associates celebrated the topping out of The Manor at Harbour Island, a 21-story residential tower on 1.27 acres in Tampa, Fla., with a construction value of $65 million.
The property, which is owned by Related Group is located at 402 Knights Run Ave., consists of 340 luxury apartment units. Tenants will park at the neighboring Two Harbour Place building and access The Manor via a new skywalk.

Williams Company Southeast is constructing Legoland Florida Resort’s new Legoland Beach Retreat. Located directly across from the world-famous theme park in Winter Haven, Fla., it will include 83 buildings featuring 166 brightly-colored bungalows seemingly built with Lego bricks. Also included is a lighthouse-themed clubhouse that will feature Sandy’s Castle Restaurant plus other amenities. The Orlando-based general contractor said the facility is set to open on April 7.

An October groundbreaking was held for High School FFF at Boggy Creek, a STEAM-focused high school designed by Orlando-based SchenkelShultz Architecture and under way by Gilbane Building Company. Located in Kissimmee, Fla., the new $75 million high school campus will have a heavy emphasis on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math). The building is designed to serve up to 3,000 student stations and showcase their career and technical education programs as well.

The team completed 50,000 safe work hours without a lost time or recordable incident. Orlando-based Roger B. Kennedy Construction broke ground for two upscale Orlando-area apartment communities totaling $41.9 million. Included are: The Alexander at Sabal Point, under a $28.4 million contract; and The Residences at Seminole Commons, under a $13.5 million contract. The Alexander at Sabal Point will be a three-story, 286-unit community when completed in early 2018. The Residences at Seminole Commons will offer four stories and 175 units when completed in August 2017.

Dominion Builders completes its renovation of South Miami Baptist Hospital’s main entrance, located at 6200 SW 73 St. The hospital first opened its doors in 1960.
The renovation included the installation of a new 225-square-foot water feature along with a landscape design to improve overall traffic flow. It now serves as the focal point of the main entrance to the bustling hospital, which is owned by Baptist Health South Florida.

Plaza Construction completed the LEED Silver-certified SOMA at Brickell, a sustainable, eight-story, 418-unit apartment community located at 145 S.W. 13th Street in Miami. SOMA at Brickell was developed by Alliance Residential and Monogram Residential Trust, and was designed by MSA Architects. Established by the U.S. Green Building Council, the LEED Silver green rating certification was verified by the Green Building Certification Institute.

Kennedy Construction broke ground May 2 for the upscale 346-unit Venetian Isles Apartments & Townhomes in Windermere, Fla., under its $42 million contract with UNICORP National Developments, Inc., Orlando. Kennedy also broke ground May 2 for Brixton Landing Apartments, a $10 million, 80-unit senior living facility in Apopka, Fla., under development by Wendover Housing Partners, LLC, Orlando. Both projects were designed by Slocum Platts Architects, Orlando.
JE Dunn has begun construction of AMLI Arts Center, a 26-story, 655,925 square feet, 350-unit apartment tower in Atlanta’s Midtown community. It will offer studio, 1 and 2 bedroom apartments; 543 parking spaces; upper level pool amenity deck.

The new 722,000 square feet residential, mixed-use development named Triton Center will include 317 condo units, 135 key hotel rooms, a rooftop restaurant, 24,000 square feet of ground-level retail and 587 parking spaces.

Originally built in the 1960s as the Gulf American, the Triton Center was recognized as a vanguard, mid-century modern tower with distinctive anodized aluminum sunscreens and tall transparent glass curtain walls spilling out to the street at its base. INS moved into the building in 1983 and vacated in 2008.
ADD Inc architects will continue the building’s vanguard spirit, integrating white stucco and metal panels highlighted with bright Miami accent colors and glass curtain walls. A pedestrian passage within a city plaza-like environment between the condominium and hotel complexes will be added. Each building will have its own pool and fitness center and the hotel will feature a12th story rooftop restaurant with views of Biscayne Bay, Downtown Miami and the Gold Coast to the north. The last phase of American Land Venture’s New River Village development, the LEED Silver building is 268,237 sf and contains a total of 209 one-, two- and three- bedroom rental units, a 2,245 sf restaurant on the ground floor, and a rooftop amenity deck with a 360 degree view of the river and the city.
“The contemporary architecture style of Vu New River reflects the diversity of the neighboring towers and those along the New River,” said architect Rachel Cardello, principal, ADD Inc, now with Stantec. “The use of horizontal bands, playful patterns and angled balconies create a distinctive architectural vocabulary for the area.”
The building’s interior has a modern yet warm ambiance with light colors of orange and red to contrast gray, white and black tones. The ground floor and lobby have a transparent façade with 20-foot floor to ceiling glass that enhances the interaction with the Riverwalk, the New River and neighboring park.
The Vu New River has many sustainable features and is certified LEED Silver by the U.S. Green Building Council. The building is located in the heart of downtown Ft. VOA's work achieved an important LEED "Silver" design for 457,500 SF, 860-room Lodge, which required selecting materials, elements and methods to obtain favorable environmental and energy ratings.
VOA's design effectively reduced the building's scale by stepping down from four to three floors in the areas closest to the residential area to demonstrate architectural sensitivity to their neighbors.
