AREMA Names LAN's Scott Hudson as Committee 12 Secretary

The American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association (AREMA) named Scott Hudson, P.E., as Secretary for Committee 12 - Rail Transit. This committee is responsible for the development and publication of information regarding light and heavy rail transit systems and their design, construction and rehabilitation, in particular Chapter 12 of AREMA’s Manual for Railway Engineering (MRE). During his three-year tenure, Hudson will maintain the committee's membership and record meetings, votes, assignments and resolutions; as well as serve the Committee at leadership conference meetings if the chair or vice-chair is unable to attend. He also serves as a member of Committee 5 (Track), which is responsible for geometry and trackwork recommended practices. “It’s an honor to be elected by the members of Committee 12 to this position,” said Hudson. “Over my tenure my goal is to continue to assist the Committee in its assignments including the continuing revision of Chapter 12 into a world-class resource to the transit rail community. “AREMA-recommended practices are referenced in numerous freight and transit rail projects, which is why I believe it’s crucial that we continue enhancing Chapter 12 and capture the knowledge that’s currently in disparate locations and publications. As more railroaders retire from the industry we stand to lose that knowledge at an alarming rate. Also, we are working to collaborate with the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) where we can dovetail our work with their publications. It’s inefficient for us to replicate the excellent publications they’ve written, and vice versa.” Hudson is a project manager at Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam, Inc. (LAN), a planning, engineering and program management firm. He has more than 17 years of experience in rail, transit, and transportation engineering and project management.
