Drew, who suffers from a genetic disorder Schwannomatosis, has undergone a number of surgeries, totaling 17 incisions, including an 18-inch scar down his spine. In an effort to help restore Drew's independence, the McCarthy team lent their time and skills to renovate a number of aspects of Drew's current living space. May 19, 2011 - Suffolk Construction's Red & Blue Foundation hosted its 5th annual Golf Tournament Friday, May 13th at Doral Golf Resort in Miami, Florida. A total of 240 golfers participated in the event which brought in more than anticipated raising $110,000 to benefit both Home Safe and ABC Cares of South Florida. Thanks to the generosity of Suffolk Construction, Home Safe will continue serving more than 15,000 infants, children and families in south Florida each year." The tournament was initially developed through Suffolk's leadership as a way to give back to the local communities. "Even with the hard economic times, we had so many supportive sponsors for this year's event," said Rex Kirby, General Manager and President of Suffolk's Southeast Region. "This fundraiser helps so many families in our communities. We could not have had such a successful event without the dedication and commitment of our sponsors." The event brought in major key sponsors including Platinum Sponsors Acousti Engineering Co. of South Florida and R.C. Aluminum, Inc. who generously supported the effort through donations as well as participating in the event. Proceeds for this year's tournament went to Home Safe and ABC Cares Foundation, who each received a check for $55,000 to support their organization's continued needs.

The Stellar Foundation Donates $50,000 to Two Nonprofit Organizations Following Golf Classic

The Stellar Foundation Donates $50,000 to Two Nonprofit Organizations Following Golf Classic

The Stellar Foundation, the corporate giving arm of Jacksonville, Fla.-based Stellar, a construction, design, engineering and mechanical services firm, raised funds for two Northeast Florida nonprofit organizations at its fourth annual charitable golf tournament Oct. 7. The Foundation donated $30,000 to River Garden and $20,000 to Community Pedscare. More than 144 players -- including Stellar executives, vendors and partners -- attended the 2011 Stellar Foundation Golf Classic, held at the St. Johns Golf and Country Club. Stellar also invited Golf Classic participants to test their luck at a poker tournament held at The Poker Room at St. Johns Greyhound Park on Oct. 6. "Each year at the golf tournament we realize how lucky we are to work with such generous partners and vendors, who care as much about this community as we do," said Allison Korman Shelton, Stellar's director of corporate marketing and public relations. "We're thrilled to be able to support these two deserving organizations, helping both young and elderly members of our community." River Garden is a comprehensive system of eldercare services offering inpatient and outpatient residential, medical, and therapy services to older adults. River Garden predates the Medicare and Medicaid programs and the "business" of elder care and has continued to uphold standards that far exceed the requirements of publicly funded programs. Learn more at www.rivergarden.org. Community PedsCare is a pediatric program of Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, providing a pediatric palliative and hospice program for children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions. The program offers in-hospital and in-home medical services to support, comfort and care for children and their families. Learn more at www.communityhospice.com/getsupport/children.htm. About the Stellar Foundation At Stellar, construction is more than the bricks and mortar of great buildings - it is about laying the foundation for opportunity. More than 144 players - including Stellar executives, vendors and partners - attended the 2011 Stellar Foundation Golf Classic, held at the St. More than 15 Power Design employees and their family members participated in the event by planting sea oats, which help replace sand lost by erosion due to storms. "I was so excited about the idea of being able to give back to the community and help preserve a special place in such a small yet meaningful way," said Cheryl Dwyer-Bero, Power Design employee. "The idea that within just a few hours a group of people could come together as a team to help preserve something for so many others to share for years to come is amazing." Power Design is committed to being a catalyst for positive change and helping our local community thrive.

As a result, we can now proudly display the N.C. Building Star banner on future KBR Building Group project sites in North Carolina. KBD Group Completes Cargill AgHorizons Grain Elevator Project in Hales Point, TN

Completion of $25 Million Manufacturing Facility means future growth and job creation for Southeast Project included several challenges, especially after the flooding of the Mississippi River in Spring of 2011 September 13, 2012, TENNESSEE -- KBD Group announces the completion of the Cargill AgHorizons grain elevator project in Hales Point, TN. The modernization project will significantly increase the storage capacity and improve the speed to unload grain to better serve customers. The project will also help save critical time and reduce transportation expenses. On an annual basis, Cargill will be able to considerably increase the amount of grain it can handle. KBD Group provided Design Build services for the expansion project located on the Mississippi River. One of the biggest challenges KBD Group had to face is one that is not common in construction projects -- flooding. In the Spring of 2011 as KBD Group was mobilizing job trailers, the Mississippi river flooded and damaged all of the materials and construction equipment. "Even with the extreme weather impact on the schedule of the project, KBD Group team worked diligently to complete the Cargill project on-time," said Jeff Stiner, KBD Group SVP/Regional Manager. "This project had a tremendous amount of crane work, if we had winds over 20 mph we would have to shut the job down." The Cargill project includes one million bushels of working/storage space, new truck receiving systems, new barge loading system and new office building with demolition of existing access road and two existing buildings. Site work includes construction of new gravel access roads, sediment basins, stripping, grading, and erosion control on an 8 acre site. Structural and Mechanical work includes 3 grain bins, barge tower, receiving pits, boot pits, 2 truck dumps, reclaim tunnel, transfer conveyor and tower. Electrical work includes installation of new utility provided transformer, rework of existing primary service, new switchgear, installation of MCC's, lighting, and all power and control wiring. The Cargill project in Hales Point is the first for KBD Group, who also did the MEP design. "The project has a tremendous amount of concrete and civil work," said Stiner. "The project has numerous underground tunnels and pits and a very unique dewatering system, which filters the water so to not contaminate the river." Cargill buys mainly corn, soybeans and soft red winter wheat at the Hales Point facility. Prior to the expansion, the elevator could unload multiple trucks per hour. Now it can unload five times the previous amount, a significant increase for Cargill. The modernization project allows Cargill to load a barge in less than two hours, much faster than the rate of six hours prior to the construction. The Hales Point elevator was built in 1964. BIM technology was key to the design success of the project. It was utilized throughout the design and construction of the project. Coordination became key to the success of the project, and lead to a successful construction of the new grain elevator. Power Design Employees Help Build Two Homes for Habitat for Humanity

St. Petersburg, Fla. - December 5, 2012 — Employees from Tampa Bay-based business Power Design, Inc. recently teamed up with Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas County to help build homes that will provide affordable housing for low-income families. "We were excited to support Habitat for Humanity," said Bobby Howard, Power Design employee. "I was amazed to see so many Power Design employees came together for such an amazing cause." More than 20 employees volunteered their time and efforts to help complete two homes within Habitat's Steven's Creek subdivision located in Clearwater, Fla. Habitat Pinellas has completed 18 of the 51 homes slated for the neighborhood and has dedicated 257 homes throughout Pinellas County since 1985. About Habitat For Humanity of Pinellas County Since 1985, Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas County has constructed 256 homes for struggling families in Pinellas County, using locally raised funds. Volunteers and the future homeowners construct the homes, which are sold at no profit and financed with a zero-interest loan. Habitat Pinellas homeowner candidates earn 30 to 80 percent of area median income. For Pinellas County, that translates to as little as $25,000 a year for a family of four. Candidates must also demonstrate need for adequate shelter; ability to pay back a zero-interest loan and willingness to partner with Habitat Pinellas to invest 250 to 350 sweat equity hours. Mortgage monies are used to build even more homes, making each donation to Habitat a perpetual legacy to the community. Habitat believes that home ownership contributes to family stability, leading in turn to community stability. Additionally, Habitat Pinellas raises funds through their ReStore, a home improvement store where donated household and building items are sold to the public. For more information about Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas County, contact (727) 536-4755 or visit www.HabitatPinellas.org.
