Front Facade - Fleisher Art Memorial

Myers Constructs recently received a Grand Jury Award from The Preservation Alliance for Greater Philadelphia (PAGP) for a major renovation and repair project at The Fleisher Art Memorial, the nation's oldest tuition-free art school located in South Philadelphia. This award was bestowed by a distinguished panel of historic preservation experts at PAGP. Myers Constructs' Fleisher restoration project entailed repairing and replacing 83 wooden windows - most of which were nearly a century old – with the goals of maintaining the historical integrity of the buildings, achieving energy efficiencies, and providing a safer and more secure environment for the 17,000 people who visit the institution throughout the year. Shown here is the front facade of the building, where all windows were replaced, as well as those on the adjoining rowhome buildings. Assorted types of casement and double-hung windows were replicated and/or restored. Increased energy efficiency was brought to the entire facade.

National Rehabilitation Hospital’s Second Floor Addition

This 8,800-sq-ft project will house a new 2,500-sq-ft glass-enclosed Cardiac Gym, a Patient Education Center, a Residency Program and Medical Education office suite, a multi-purpose conference room and staff offices for 60 occupational and physical therapists. Construction will commence July 19, 2010 and is expected to be competed in February of 2011. The $2 million addition will be constructed over a two-story addition to NRH designed by Karr and completed in 2004 for the hospital's Christoph Ruesch Research Center, as well as over portions of the hospital's second-floor roof deck patios, challenging Buch to maintain the first-floor patient treatment areas and research facilities in continuous operation below the work area with minimal disruption to patient care.

Community Support Services - Program Center

"The Community Resource Center enables CSS to provide innovative integrated support services including supported employment, community living supports, instructional and recreational programs for children, an augmentative communication lending library and related services such as psychological and therapy services. The Community Support Resource Center was envisioned to be a community resource to facilitate collaboration among agencies and programs and expand the options for support, and activities which promote growth and independence of people with severe developmental disabilities. The physical design of the Community Resource center has been admired by hundreds of people who have toured the facility for its use of natural light, arrangement of space for functional use and choice of materials and colors. The architect insured that the needs of the program generated the basic design, but now the building is inspiring ideas of activities and uses of this attractive space." Mixed-Use Building 'Tellus' in Arlington, Va., to seek LEED Gold; Power Design Named Electrical Contractor

Power Design, Inc. has been named electrical contractor on Tellus, Arlington's first residential mixed-use building seeking LEED gold certification. Power Design partnered with the developers Erkiletian, Jefferson Apartment Group, WDG Architecture and Mechanical Design Group to provide the electrical systems design on the project and SE Foster will be spearheading the construction. The 254-unit luxury residential tower will feature Energy Star's advanced lighting package, renewable energy sources, energy-efficient materials, sustainable landscaping and advanced recycling systems. The 16-story building will also include more than 11,000 square feet of office and retail space, a boutique lobby and lounge area, a state-of-the-art fitness center, a clubroom with a bar, and landscaped rooftop deck. "We are excited to again be teaming up with The Williams Companies of Chantilly, VA in designing and constructing this unique property for SE Foster and the developers," said Doug Roach, senior project manager. "With help from the interior designer and Power Design Resources, our lighting division in Atlanta, we have put together an energy efficient lighting package that will assist the team in acquiring its LEED Gold certification while satisfying the architectural intent and budget requirements of the project." The multifamily market in the Washington, D.C. metro area is expected to generate more than 4,700 apartment units and 44,000 jobs in 2012, increasing the local industry employment rate by 1.5 percent (Source: Marcus & Millichap). Power Design, Inc. currently has 10 active projects in the area, a number expected to increase in 2013.
