The new Embassy of Australia aims to serve as both an integral civic space and an enduring symbol of the country. The embassy’s design respects Capitol Hill’s architectural style while acknowledging the site’s transition between residential buildings and commercial structures, according to the project team.

The nearly six-year, $519-million project is Washington, D.C.’s largest-ever health care job.

The design-build team of Clark Construction Group and SmithGroup + HKS Joint Venture broke ground in August on the El Paso VA Health Care Center at Fort Bliss, Texas.

GSA expects the project to incorporate low embodied-carbon materials and sustainable building systems.  

About 90% of work under the contracts is expected to be done in California through June 2029.

The project is doubling the facility's size and capacity, but delays have pushed back its completion.

Construction is expected to start next year and complete in 2026.
